There are slow days and there are busy weeks. This is a busy week.
To catch everyone up on the Misadventures of Mr. Me, I’ve been mostly applying to jobs and it was a pretty slow process. Then, all of a sudden, a biblical flood of emails (3) came down from the mountain and I was shifted into interview mode.
The first suitor, which I am a big fan of so far, is the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I don’t know much about the city, but the name is nice. Lots of pros and cons with moving to Michigan, I haven’t quite weighed it in my mind yet, but that seems a little premature. I did my third round with them today, went alright, I’ll find out final decisions next week. So, fingers crossed for school number 1.
School number 2 interviewed me last week through some interesting one-way process, which I wasn’t a fan of given that most of my individual strength is in my charisma, something notably absent from pre-recorded interview answers. Well, they must have liked my vlog because they told me today that they’re flying me out tomorrow to interview with them on Friday! Yay! Nerve-wracking!
Wait, they’re flying me out? I don’t have a STAR ID.
That led to a very busy day for me today. There are a couple of issues with my getting a fancy new ID, the biggest being I don’t really have proof of address. All of my cards and insurance and bills go to different places because I can’t be assed to fix it (lesson learned). So, naturally, I then pour over every single official document I have, trying to see if any two of them have the same address. And Bingo! They did!
Issue #2. The only address that occurred twice in all of my documents was my ex’s address, on account of me having sent my mail there when I moved onto campus for my job. Well, this is no problem, I can just have them put my mailing and permanent address as my mom’s home like I’ve been doing for the past decade.
Issue #3. They don’t do that anymore. So I now have to contact my ex and ask her to give me my new ID when it comes in. It’s not really an issue, though, probably just a mutual inconvenience. And I’ll have to get a new ID anyways when I move out of state so it’ll only really be a problem for four more weeks.
The DMV was a pleasant place, though. It only took three hours to get through the whole process, which y’know, can’t complain.
I have a final interview with Tennessee in like two weeks, I didn’t even do an initial with them so they must be really speeding through the process.
Things are happening! I hope I get at least one offer, two would be ideal, though. And I need to keep applying to places just in case. If I get multiple, I’ll make a blog post in a couple weeks with a pros/cons table and you all can vote on where I end up going, just so I’m not responsible for it.
Oh well, exciting stuff. Personally, I’m doing fine. Ex stuff is great, knowing she’s with someone has had the opposite effect of what I thought and I just feel very… unburdened. Maybe because that means things are officially dead? Either way, it’s been confusingly pleasant. Therapy is also fine, but I haven’t gone in a couple weeks due to sickness on my counselor’s part. Get well soon! Miss you! I’m going to miss my friends a shit ton when I leave, and honestly, when I think of the past two years of my life, all the people I’ve met and the things I’ve done, I’m thankful that things played out the way they did. I’m grateful for my life and the people in it.
Alright, ta-ta. Wish me luck for Friday, it’s my first on-campus interview with a bunch of strangers in an unfamiliar city.
