Mmm, this will be a post about music I’ve been listening to. I have decided to enter a period of reflective, monk-like isolation because truly nothing good comes of me speaking to other people right now. Not in a dramatic sense, but in a sort of selfish sense. I’m someone who desperately wants things to happen, and if they’re not, I tend to make something happen. Which isn’t great. So, while I wrestle with all the feelings I have, I’m going to try to be alone in a very (probably unhealthy) sense. This post is inspired by one my friend wrote on his blog about the music he liked and the lyrics that really resonated with him.
First one, good band. This song isn’t really reflective of the rest of the album, I’d definitely listen to Bull Believer if you want something heavier. The genre is just general kind of alt-country, meme genre is “bootgaze”, which I guess is a mix of shoegaze and country. It’s nice.
I like songs that don’t have choruses. Sometimes the whole verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus is just too formulaic and it takes me out of it. This one has a nice build, and for a three minute song I really appreciate that.
My sister said this album is one of her only 10/10s, so I had to listen to it. Olivia has a really great and interesting taste in music, so it surprised me when I listened to this. Usually, Olivia’s music is a lot more foreign and like, I don’t know, cowboy lesbian and jangly and stuff. But this is a very almost standard soft-indie singer-songwriter joint. It’s very well-produced and it is kind of soul crushing. I don’t get the 10/10, but I certainly like it a lot, this song in particular.
There’s a harmony at 1:19 that makes me want to explode.
The new Magdalena Bay is by far my most listened to album this year, so I decided to give myself a breather from that and listen to their older stuff. This song is just a video game song in the best way, really driving synths and that whisper-singing that Mica does. Just a fun listen, I like it a lot. Chaeri on this album is also really good.
This is a lot more of a standard song, it doesn’t do anything crazy. It’s just vibey and sounds really good on my headphones. I do really like the chorus on this one, around 1:50.
Good song, good album.
This is the song I dance to right now.
